Following a selection procedure, Jānis Urtāns has been appointed Chairman of the Management Board of Latvijas vēja parki SIA. The selection procedure for Chairman of the Management Board was carried out by a nomination committee established by the Meeting of Shareholders of Latvijas vēja parki SIA. From 30 October 2023, the Management Board of Latvijas vēja parki SIA will comprise two people; Jānis Urtāns will act as Chairman of the Management Board and Baiba Zauere will continue to act as Member of the Management Board.

When the open tender for the positions of Chairman and Member of the Management Board of Latvijas vēja parki SIA (LVP) was launched, 18 applications were received for the position of Chairman of the Management Board. After three rounds of evaluation, in-depth assessments of personal competencies and interviews with situational analysis, the Meeting of Shareholders of LVP appointed Jānis Urtāns as Chairman of the Management Board.

Jānis Urtāns will take office on 30 October 2023. The current Chairperson of the Management Board of LVP, Ilvija Boreiko, will continue to serve until 29 October 2023. Baiba Zauere also joined the Management Board of LVP on 7 August as a result of the nomination process.

Jānis Urtāns is currently studying at Riga Graduate School of Law, having previously obtained a Master’s degree in Management Studies from the University of Latvia and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Latvia University of Agriculture. Since 2019, Jānis Urtāns has been the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Valsts nekustamie īpašumi VAS, prior to which he gained experience in financial management working for Via SMS Group SIA and Towers Construction Management AS, as well as a member of the Management Board of Swedbank Group real estate company Ektornet Management Latvia.

The selection and assessment of candidates was carried out by the personnel selection company Pedersen & Partners SIA.

The joint venture of Latvenergo AS and Latvijas valsts meži AS – Latvijas vēja parki SIA – was established on 22 July 2022 to develop wind parks in order to promote Latvia’s progress towards energy independence and climate neutrality.

Latvijas vēja parki SIA is a national capital company that takes a responsible approach towards national resources, environmental protection requirements and the local population by developing such wind energy projects that strengthen the country’s competitiveness, increase green electricity generation and do not require government subsidies. The money earned will be kept by the State and local residents without intermediaries. The main challenge for the company and its management is to install and operate the wind-powered generator capacity of around 800 MW on State-owned forest land.

The operating principles of the company dictate the environmentally and socially responsible development of wind farms, working for the interests of the population of Latvia.
